Look Out For Sand Sculptures!

Posted on 23rd September, 2021

Keep an eye out around our local beaches, there’s sand sculptures to be seen!

With lockdowns in place across the Mid Coast recently, local Sculptor Shannon Stone wasn’t able to hold an exhibition of his metal works….so he looked for another outlet to display his creativity. This came in the form of sand sculptures- creative works that started popping up across Diamond Head beach and surrounds.

To the delight of young and old, his works included a giant sand snake, tortoises, pyramids, and of course sand castles.

When Shannon spoke to Jayce on the brekky show recently, he was amazed at the attention the sculptures received, and was delighted to be featured on Prime’s local news.

On MAX 1073, Shannon even explained how to make “sand candles”- you can hear it here- https://soundcloud.com/user-377596040/local-sculptor-shannon-stone-on-max-1073

The upside of these sandy installments is the attention Shannon has received from local daycare centres and youth groups, with various organizations asking him to take time to teach the local youth how it’s done.

Of course, Shannon was more than happy to impart his skills.

Sadly though, these sculptures don’t last long due to the tide washing them away, so you’ll have to be quick!
