A little love letter

A little love letter

I know I’m not the first person in the world to realise how wonderful our region is, but it was made very clear to me this week that we live in a very special part of the world. On Saturday, I was driving into town to meet a few friends who were passing through on their journey to Brisbane for coffee and on the Bucketts Way, just as I was going past the rubbish tip my tyre exploded. Straight up exploded. No other word to describe it, it was a loud pop and my steering started shaking like my car was a tomato sauce bottle with one squirt of sauce left in it. I turned into the street that Manning Adventist School is on and started to get out the jack and a few things. It’s about 40 degrees outside though and every moment is difficult. I went out to the road to see if someone could help me but realised I was wasting precious time I could be changing my tyre with. My middle name is not manual labour and it’s definitely not upper-body strength so I was a little concerned about how well I was going to get the nuts unscrewed and a really lovely guy by the name of Kane in a white commodore pulled over and offered me some help. Kane was a godsend, he changed my tyre in about five minutes at most. Kane absolutely did not have to stop or help me, but he saved the day and I got to meet my friends on time and show them the beautiful hospitality of the Manning Valley, too. There was no getting things fixed on the weekend, my rim had a buckle in it and the tyre was shredded. So on Monday I went in to see what my options were at Jax tyres in Taree. I was very concerned that it was going to cost me a fortune – especially if I needed to replace the rim. I’m currently saving for a trip to England and Ireland in April and buying a new rim would be the difference between me crashing on my friends couch for three weeks or actually going exploring and enjoying the cities. The staff at Jax could not be more helpful if they tried. They put me in touch with Daryl from D&B Rim Repairs and with a bit of back and forth between the two we came to the conclusion that we may be able to repair it. Hearing horror stories about the price of replacing my rim from the manufacturer (upwards of $800) this was a huge sigh of relief. I often feel like I get taken advantage of when it comes to things in relation to my car – i used to own a complete lemon and when I lived in a place that pales in comparison to here I spent more money on getting it fixed in a 12 month period than it was worth and it would still overheat in Macca’s drive through – not once did I feel like that this time. Don’t get me wrong, I’m smart in many ways but when it comes to cars I just don’t know a spanner from a wrench. Daryl called me about an hour after I dropped off my rim to tell me that not only was he able to repair it, it was ready to be picked up. Unbelievable. Outstanding. I’m really appreciative of the crew at Jax, they ordered me a tyre without me having to call them, it was meant to arrive...

What’s next for Harry & Meghan

With news breaking last week that Prince Harry & Meghan Markle have made the decision as a couple to share time between the USA and the UK, and in turn step down from their Royal duties it has a lot of people asking the question of what’s next on the cards for the Royal Couple. Meghan Markle, who is knows for her roles in Suits, Remember Me & Horrible Bosses could find herself doing a Toni Basil impression.   Hey Mickey? A video from the red carpet of The Lion King reboot has come to light of Prince Harry having a chat to Bob Iger – Disney’s CEO. The Times Of London have reported over the weekend that Markle had signed an agreement where she will record a voiceover for Disney in return for Disney donating to the charity Elephants Without Borders. Although this has not been confirmed by Markle & her husband, the Royal Family or Disney. A video shows that Harry may have been her reference. The conversation is said to have went as follows: Harry: “you know she does voiceovers,” Iger: ” oh really? Harry: “you seem surprised…. but yeah, she’s really interested”   I guess we’ll have to watch this space to find out where we’ll hear her pop-up, but it’s very exciting times for the Bad Boy of the Royal family’s little...

Could this be our next Bachelorette?

Could this be our next Bachelorette?

Ah, the internet. It’s gave us the other side of Lee Lin Chin, and some Alf Stewart videos I’m not allowed to share. It turned Shannon Noll into a meme:   Now it’s doing something wonderful for a much loved Aussie Comedian. Well, I hope so anyway.   Judith Lucy is an icon to a girl as salty as I am. She pokes fun at everything with a dry, sassy demeanor. So when I saw that the latest petition is to get her to front the Bachelorette, I’m all in baby! You can sign it here.   The petition is pretty straightforward “As a single woman over the age of 30, Judith would be a relatable — but revolutionary — presence on a television dating show. To quote one person I spoke to, ‘I would watch the sh*t out of that.’”   SAME.  ...

Digital I.D in NSW

Posted on 29th October, 2019

After almost five years since it was first proposed by the state government, New South Welshman can now finally display their driver’s licences on their phones and use it as ID in clubs and pubs. But make sure your phone isn’t cracked or flat, it must have charge. The Service NSW app, which allows people to display their ID on smartphones was updated yesterday for all NSW citizens to add their licence. It is expected that most places will accept the digital licence, but to avoid any problems for sometime consider still holding on to your plastic card. It may take time for some organisations to accept the digital way. Also if being pulled over make sure you don’t pick up your phone until the officer asks to see your driver’s licence. Which I think is a little confusing as your aren’t meant to touch your phone will your car is on. Other licences can be used on the app too like boat, RSA, RCG, fishing and working with children. Let’s see how this will go. The site has already crashed as many people wanted to get their digital...

There ain’t no news like some S-Club News

90s pop fans rejoice! Do I have some news for you! To celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of the best co-ed British Pop Groups is NEXT YEAR, and even though they’ve come down under (S Club 3 anyone?) for some nostalgic tours, they may be reforming for a reunion! A source has spoken to The Mirror in the UK” “There is talks in between band members now about doing a reunion arena tour next year… A lot of the bandmates are up for it. It’s still early days but they are talking and fans may be in for a treat in 2020. It all makes sense for a reunion celebrating 20 years of S Club 7” According to the source, it’s not gonna be a phoned in S Club 3 tour. Apparently 6 of the members are on board – Rachel Steven, Jo O’Meara, Hannah Spearritt, Tina Barrett, Bradley McIntosh & John Lee. Which is pretty great considering the final years of the group was that lineup (missing Paul Cattermole). If it goes ahead, this could be the most complete lineup since 2003 (man, I feel old just thinking about that). Rachel, my fav behind Jo, had hinted a tour earlier this year on The Morning UK; “you never know, there’s seven of us all in different stages of our lives but it does bubble up every now and then…. I can’t believe it’s been 20 years, it’s crazy. We were all over the place. TV Shows, albums, touring… it all makes perfect sense”  ...

HSC IS COMING!

Posted on 10th October, 2019

One week to go and many year 12 students in our local area are getting nervous because the HSC is just around the corner. All kicking off on Friday 18th October. Get your pens, pencils, paper and calculators ready. But don’t forget, we are here to help! Here’s some tips I followed during my HSC to get me through it all! Set a timetable: try and stick to your study timetable – I know it’s hard but it can help! Reward yourself: study for a couple of hours and reward yourself with a swim at the beach or maybe a sneaky chocolate. The syllabus is your friend: you’ve probably heard this soooo many time, but it the best guide for study and exam. Have a study buddy: each subject have a little study group – I found studying with people made it easier. Don’t be afraid to ask questions: I was always nervous to ask! I wish I asked more. SLEEP AND HEALTH: this one is massive! Make sure you are sleeping well and keeping up your health – both mental and physical health. I know it might be stressful, but it will be okay in the end. These are just a few of my tips! I finished school 5 years ago and times may of changed, but they definitely helped me. (Especially the sneaky chocolate) GOOD LUCK YEAR 12! We are all thinking of you! You’ll do GREAT!  –...

Surf Season has started! And here’s some tips…

Posted on 30th September, 2019

Summer is right around the corner, so is daylight savings and the Surf Life Saving season has started! The red and yellow flags went up over the weekend and both volunteer and council lifeguards are ready for another busy season. Here’s some tips to remember to keep you, your family and friends safe at the beach this Summer. Swim between the red and yellow flags – this is where the lifeguards can watch you and it is the safest part of the beach. Read the safety signs – this is where you will find helpful information about the current conditions and dangers at the beach. Ask a lifeguard for help – they are all highly trained and are there to help. They can help you understand the conditions and point you to the right direction. Swim with a friend – it’s always good to swim with someone, not just for fun, but to keep an eye out on each other. If you need help, stay calm and attract attention – if you aren’t feeling safe and you think you need help from a lifeguard, try and stay calm, raise an arm and wave side to side to try attract attention. Also try floating on your back, while staying calm. These are only a few tips, but you can also ask your friendly lifeguards for anymore help. Also don’t forget to SLIP, SLOP,...

Buzz off! – Your definitive guide to dealing with Mozzies

Buzz off! – Your definitive guide to dealing with Mozzies

Yesterday I was walking down the street to get a coffee and in the space of five minutes had six different mosquitoes bite me. Mozzies are back and they are hungryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Every summer, and every time there are puddles around, it’s the bloody (not pun intended) same. I end up looking as bumpy as a cob of corn because they tend to love me, and if they have the choice will bite me 10 times before anybody else even knows they’re around. Jerks.   So I decided to get your help, best Mozzie repellents care of our fabulous Facebook likers:   Belinda swears by this one: This is fantastic and natural! Repellent but also if you do get bitten takes the itch away instantly. Kristy recommends the Sure Mosquito Candle. Frann Suggested Lads Love Plants & Said they “are a great mosquito deterrent ….. you must disturb the plant each day …. tweek the leaves or ruffle it” Kathleen swears by “Good old “Rid“,in the roll-on. Get the tropical strength.” Cheryl had a remedy that also gets rid of sandflies which is a big bonus because I hate those little buggers too; Cheryl: I swear by this we live on the edge of a swamp heaps of mozzies and sandflies. This is the only thing that works for our kid’s. Natural and Deet free.   Steve recommends to Mix baby oil with dettol, best repellent there is While Denise is a fan of Vapour Rub. Neck, wrists & ankles. They hate it. Jessica reckons scented moisturiser. Michelle recommends YaMate: We use the Yamate one, its a cream as has been super effective for us, as well as gentle on our sensitive skin! Lisa agrees with YaMate. Krystle’s money is on putting together a mixture: A cup of each- dettol, baby oil, metho, and a vial of citronella oil from the pharmacy (Thursday’s plantation) While Nikolas suggests you play Justin Beiber. I wish that would work. Jensen had a great idea for bites too: Lime or Lemon Juice on the bite takes away the itch & reduces swelling.   Are there any we missed? Let us know of Facebook and we’ll add them to our list! I’m gonna give some of these a go and report back, in the meantime I’ve got some itchy bites that need scratching.  ...

Sam from Supernatural is going hunting again.. but not demons this time

Jared Padelecki, everybody’s pseudo boyfriend hasn’t quite given up his hunting boots just yet. Padelecki has signed onto a reboot to be the bounty hunting hard man Walker, Texas Ranger. Yeahhh the Chuck Norris one!
