Farmer Ben Wants A Wife

It’s official- we have a local farmer appearing on national television! This comes after Channel 7 have announced the 2022 lineup for the incredibly popular “Famer Wants A Wife” series. This time around, the show is going to switch things up in a major way, with one farmer actually looking for a husband. Of the six new contestants sharing their quest for love in the country, local dairy farmer Ben Scowen will throw his Akubra in the ring. The 27-year-old from Wingham was left heartbroken when his last relationship ended and, not wanting to get hurt again, steered clear of the dating scene for a long time. “But there’s a time where you’ve got to let down your walls again and open your heart back up to love,” he says. Will this single father find love with another single parent and end up with a brother or sister for his daughter – as well as a wife for himself? We’ll have to wait and see. While speaking to Jayce on the breakky show, Ben opened up as to why he chose national TV to look for love, what he considers a perfect date, and the opportunity to showcase Wingham to the country. Hear the extended chat here-https://soundcloud.com/user-377596040/farmer-ben-on-max-1073 Thousands of eligible singles have applied to meet the farmers, but only a handful will be invited back to the farms for a chance to learn and love. Before its reboot in 2019, the iconic Australian television show had turned out some the most successful and long-lasting couples a reality TV franchise had ever seen. The show is now in it’s 12th season. Farmer Wants A Wife can be seen on Channel 7 and 7 Plus. Article by Jayce...

Mid Coast Pickers Episode #1- A DeLorean On The Mid Coast!

A new segment has just begun on the breakky show, and Jayce is in search of the weird, strange, and unusual on the Mid Coast. The first episode of “Mid Coast Pickers” went to air this Friday, and on the weekly spot, we’re looking for people with something to show and tell. First cab off the rank (or should we say the first unique American sportscar off the rank?) was Wingham local Gary Cox, who owns an original Delorean car. Yes, this was the car made famous by the “Back to the Future” movies! Great Scott! Gary explained to Jayce, that not only was he a fan of the iconic1980’s movies, but he was more so interested in the unique story of the DeLorean motor company. The rise and fall of DMC motors is an amazing story on it’s own- where an entrepreneur named John DeLorean envisioned a stainless steel-bodied, fibreglass-shelled sports car with upward opening doors that would take on American car giant General Motors, and things went terribly wrong for the company. To hear more about Gary’s “accidental purchase”, and what owning this head-turner means to the community, listen to Jayce’s first installment of “Mid Coast Pickers” here- https://soundcloud.com/user-377596040/mid-coast-pickers-1-the-delorean   To see this incredible vehicle for yourself, an open day for the Taree Antique &Classic Car Club will take place in Taree on May 15th. Wingham’s Second Busker Muster A Success!

The second annual Busker Muster was a successful event in Wingham recently, and Isabella street really came to life with everything from jugglers to jazz bands, dancers to daredevils, singers and guitar slingers. Cash prizes were on offer for the most popular street acts. A huge congratulations to teen singer Cassidy Alyson, who played solo acoustic and sang her way to first place in the event. She won the local’s award as favorite, by the most slender of margins- 1 vote! “It was great to see such a community response to this” said Alyson. By Monday morning, Cass was in the studio for a chat with Jayce…. She even brought her guitar with her. Listen here- https://soundcloud.com/user-377596040/cassidy-alyson The sky is the limit for the local OOSH worker, who is currently studying her HSC, with aspirations of traveling abroad to further her music career. A worthy mention must be given to Mid Coast locals “Max and Craig” who places second in Wingham, and young Travis, who finished third. Jayce’s Mullet Mission

Jayce’s Mullet Mission

Jayce, if you’re going to have long hair, you might as well use it for good. And let’s face it, what’s better than a mullet to raise funds for charity? Recently learning about the efforts of the year 9 boys from Chatham, Jayce from the Breakfast show was inspired to reach out to the local High School. The clippers were out for the month of September as students at Chatham High participated in the “Mullets for Mental Health” initiative to raise funds for mental health research. These awfully daggy haircuts have become a staple at Chatham High, especially among Year 9 boys, who have taken to the hairstyle in memory of their classmate Liam Dyball, who tragically passed away in November 2020. The school’s fundraising team, The Griff’s, had the goal of raising $1000 for the Black Dog Institute, and they made it halfway with a great effort- raising $500 in Mental Health Awareness month. Enter our hairy brekky host. Jayce has had long hair for a few years now, which he mostly keeps up and out of the way. He offered to join the mullet brigade for a good cause. By the end of October, locals of the Mid Coast had dug deep, and the final tally for the fundraiser had reached over $2,800. What an amazing effort and a huge thanks to everyone involved! See how it happened here-...

Posted on 11th October, 2021

What an announcement! Forster’s historic Main Beach foreshore is set for a $6.3 million facelift after the Federal Government announced $3.159 million to help upgrade the 50-year-old Forster Surf Life Saving Clubhouse. Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie appeared on the Brekky Show with Jayce to break the news last week and said the new clubhouse would be the cornerstone of the Forster Main Beach foreshore redevelopment. “As we all know, Forster Main Beach is an absolute jewel, but it’s in need of a polish.”- That’s a fancy way of saying it’s time for a facelift. The existing Surf Club building will be demolished to make way for a new one, with parking and surrounding infrastructure considered as part of the project.               Dr Gillespie assures locals that he has consulted with the community and members of the Surf Club to find the opportune way to invest in the local economy, and to provide locals and visitors with the best facilities possible. The redevelopments in Forster are one of almost 300 projects across regional Australia, and will create almost 1000 jobs to build the facilities. Representing The Mid North Coast: Luke’s Close Call In Tokyo

The moment we were all waiting for, Wingham’s own Luke Bailey has raced in Japan! Locals of the Mid-North Coast were steadily looking forward to the 2020 (21) Tokyo Paralympic Games to support two homegrown athletes that joined the Australian team. With runner  James Turner bagging gold on the track, the attention turned to 23-year old Luke Bailey, who qualified for the T54 100m wheelchair sprint and was hoping to make the podium. Ranked 7th in the world already, he had high hopes. “I’m over the moon because, obviously, it’s my first Paralympic Games, so I’m excited my dream’s come true,” Bailey said to ABC news. Unluckily, it wasn’t the result he wanted, finishing fifth in the qualifying heats. Thailand’s Athiwat Paeng-Nuea came first, with Cambodia and China finishing second and third. Keep in mind, that Paeng-Nuea finished in 14.0 seconds, and Luke recorded 14.55! He literally missed out by half a second! Despite the unwanted result, he’s still a winner to us. Jayce caught Luke for a chat just prior to his Tokyo departure, you can hear it here- https://soundcloud.com/user-377596040/luke-bailey-on-max Bailey made the final at the World Championships in Dubai two years ago, where he finished seventh. Determined to look even beyond Tokyo, the announcement of the Olympics and Paralympics in Brisbane in 2032 has sparked Luke to keep racing. “I’ll be 32 by then and I hope I’m still competing. There’s another Paralympics in between as well as the world championships and Commonwealth Games, so hopefully my body will hold out” He told the Manning River Times. Indigenous Whale Sculpture Makes A Splash In European Galleries

Indigenous Whale Sculpture Makes A Splash In European Galleries

A southern right whale sculpture called “Jidirah”, made from ghost nets and marine debris collected from beaches along the Nullarbor has been on display in art galleries in Europe, showcasing indigenous art. The amazing sculpture is on display in France after being part of an Aboriginal and Oceanic exhibition called Taba Naba, at the Oceanographic Museum in Monte Carlo, Monaco. The museum of Monaco spokesperson commented “The amazing thing about Jidirah is it’s swimming all over the world.”       Ghost net art raises awareness of net pollution and showcases Indigenous art and songlines. It looks like Jidirah has been bought by a philanthropist in Switzerland, under the Opale Foundation, and will be on loan to the Museum of Natural History Le Havre in France. Opale Foundation also bought a blue swimmer crab by Ceduna Art. The Jidirah project was funded by Alinytjara Wilurara Natural Resources Management (AWNRM), the Department of Environment and Water (DEW) and Arts Ceduna. Jayce Flaxman...

Jack River Leads The Charge For Australian Music

Jack River Leads The Charge For Australian Music

You may soon hear more Australian music played in public spaces due to an initiative kick-started by our very own Jack River. The multi-instrumentalist indie-pop artist from Forster (real name Holly Rankin) has a successful debut album, and continues to record new music, although she really grabbed the nation’s attention just recently when she publicly challenged Channel 7’s coverage of the Tokyo Olympics, and it’s choices in music during the coverage. Channel Seven host Edwina Bartholomew and Channel Nine’s Karl Stefanovic then climbed on board, as River’s post went viral among Australian musicians. For the remainder of the Olympic tv coverage, the music was suddenly all homegrown. The global pandemic has wreaked havoc with the Australian music industry over the past 18 months, leaving muso’s seeking new ways to have their voices heard. Hopefully the plan to have more Australian music played in supermarkets and stores will lead to an increase in royalties and exposure for the struggling industry. To learn more about the “Our Soundtrack Our Stories” campaign, and to find ways you can support homegrown talent, visit https://www.aria.com.au/our-soundtrack-our-story To support our own Indie artist extraordinaire, and to hear her new EP, visit https://www.jackrivermusic.com/ Written by Jayce...

SleepBuses: Helping Those In Need

SleepBuses: Helping Those In Need

A good night’s sleep is everything. With the dramatic increase of men, women, and their children ending up on the streets due to financial strife, family breakdown and other factors, a man in Melbourne took action. Simon Lowe is the founder of SleepBuses.org. With the aim of bringing safe, temporary, overnight accomodation to people sleeping rough in Australia, Simon set about the ingenious idea of converting former school buses into mobile sleeping pods. Not only has the idea taken off, but the project has come to life. With the aid of GoFundMe pages, Sleepbuses now provide over 8,000 safe sleeps per year for those who would otherwise be in dire straights. These Buses don’t come cheap though. From start to finish, a retired school bus can be turned into a sleepbus at a cost of aproximately $100,000 You can hear Simon discussing the project with Jayce on the MAX 1073 Brekky show here- https://soundcloud.com/user-377596040/sleepbus-founder-simon-rowe-on-max-1073 Closer to home on the Mid North Coast, numbers indicate that there is an issue with homelessness in our area. With the situation in need of attention, a local retiree, Terry Stanton has started the Manning Homeless Action Supporters Group. Terry has also been in contact with Simon, who will be providing the bus if our community can raise the $100,000 needed. Terry wishes to thank the Manning United Church, Rotary clubs across Taree, the Samaritans of Taree, and Compass Housing for their initial interest and help to get the ball rolling for a potential Sleepbus on the Mid North Coast.
